Professor Matilde Fernández de Romero, Ph.D, started working at La Universidad del Zulia in May 1994. Currently, she is the Director of the Corrosion Study Center at La Universidad del Zulia (July 2011) and the Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Corrosion since 1995. She coordinates the following lines of researches: “Microbiological Corrosion”, “Corrosion due to CO2 y H2S” and “Corrosion Costs”.
She had previously worked in the petrochemical industry at Pequiven, Zulia “El Tablazo” for 12 years as a Supervisor of Materials and Services/Energy which included the corrosion control of the petrochemical complex. She holds the maximum qualification as Level C Researcher within the National Program for Research Promotion (PEI) and has been awarded several prizes and distinctions for her activities in Teaching, Research and Extension to the Industries.
Professor Romero is the President of the Venezuelan Association of Corrosion (ASVENCOR, EDU), Trustee of the International Association of Corrosion, Venezuelan Section (NACE International Venezuelan Section). She is the representative of Venezuela in the International Corrosion Council (ICC), and the President of the Ibero-american Corrosion Association (AICOP).
Professor Romero has a professional experience of 29 years, 12 years in the petrochemical industry and 17 years as a professor with an exclusive dedication to the university, working in Research, Extension and Teaching in undergraduate and graduate programs.
