Redução de Riscos Associado com Revestimentos Anticorrosivos de Alta Tecnologia

Antonino Di Marco / Andrew Smitt - International Paint / Akzo Nobel

Protective Coatings are intended for the protection of steel and concrete from corrosion, sometimes in very aggressive environments. These coatings are formulated using complex mixtures of Polymers, pigments, solvents and other materials in order to achieve the desired performance. Many coatings contain some level of volatile solvent and some have used hazardous raw material such as Coal Tar, Lead compounds and others to achieve the desired properties.

Over the last decade, there has been movement in the coatings industry to reduce and, where possible, eliminate the use of hazardous raw materials – this in part due to tightening regulations, but also out of recognition by coating manufacturers that they have a responsibility to deliver safer solutions.

The technological advances required to achieve these improvements sometimes offer unexpected benefits such as improved application efficiency and cost effectiveness.

This presentation examines some of the issues associated with material used in the formulation of protective coatings, the solutions being developed and the benefits provided to end user.
